From the producers of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Elizabeth, Billy Elliot is the heartwarming tale of a coal miner's son in Northern England.
During the historic miner's strike of the mid-80s, young Billy stumbles upon a ballet class on his way to his weekly boxing lessons. Intrigued, he joins the class, but has to keep it a secret from his working class family, for whom ballet is strictly for girls. The ballet teacher finds in him a natural talent for dance, and encourages him to try out for the Royal Ballet School in London. Billy is thus torn between his dream of becoming a dancer and his duty to his family.
